Commonly Asked Questions & Answers
How do I know if you're the right therapist for me?
Finding the right therapist is not unlike forming any relationship. It has to work for you and is primarily. based on connection. This can take time so we recommend trying a few sessions. We take a client-centered approach where you provide feedback about what works for you and what doesn't so we start with a fully transparent relationship. You are putting time and money into therapy so it's important that it works for you. If I'm not the right fit, I will provide you with a list of therapist referrals. Do you take insurance?
While I do not work directly with insurance companies, I can provide a superbill upon request which you can submit to your insurance for part or full reimbursement (after you meet your deductible). New to submitting claims for out-of-network clinicians? Don't worry, you can click here to learn more where I break it down, step-by-step. Use these helpful instructions and tips to find out if your insurance provides reimbursements and how to submit claims. I am always happy to answer questions as well. If you are planning to do couples counseling, be sure to tell your insurance as benefits can differ for individual versus couples therapy.
What is your rate?
Each 50-minute session is $225/hour for individuals and $250 for couples. If these fees create a hardship for you, sliding scale spots are available. If this rate does not work for you, please inquire. For those interested in longer sessions, coaching or intensives, please let me know. (Email or Text: 805-694-8297).
What forms of payment do you take and how will I be billed?
We take cash, credit card, debit card, FSA/HSA cards or check. Payment is due on the day of each session and will be billed to your card on file at the end of the day. Cancellations must occur prior to 24 hours before each session in order to avoid full payment. Clients are always welcome to reschedule if alternate times are available that same week (Monday-Friday).
Do you specialize in my particular issue(s)?
To learn more about my top areas of focus at Santa Ynez Valley Therapy, click here. I pride myself in my education, trainings and lived experience (both personally and professionally). I know that therapy is both time and money and I want you to be satisfied with your experience. If I do not have extensive experience in the reason you are seeking therapy I'll let you know or provide you with referrals to therapists that specialize in that issue. Fortunately, I've had personal and professional experience in many areas. I take an integrative, client-centered approach to treatment focusing directly on your established goals for therapy. If you're not sure what you want to change, we will figure that out together!
How old are you?
This might seem like an odd question for me to put in my own FAQ. I get this question a lot as many people comment on how I look and make assumptions. I am in my mid-40s. Not everyone cares what age their therapist is but life experience does matter and some folks want to know that I'll be able to relate to their experiences or provide guidance as someone who has "been there, done that". If you see a topic in my "areas of focus" list then I can promise you, I have not only education and training but real lived experience. I am passionate about helping others navigate hardships, life transitions or challenges I have already been through.
What does the symbol in your logo mean?
The unalome represents the path to enlightenment. Like the symbol, our journey in life is not a straight line. There are many twists and curves. Despite life's challenges, we keep moving forward, learning new things about ourselves and others. The unalome tells our story and together, in therapy, we will retell your story and break the cycle of suffering while increasing self-awareness. Santa Ynez Valley Therapy empowers you to make positive changes in order to reach your goals.
